A total of 1,300 communities throughout the country will participate in all-out drives of the United Jewish Appeal between now and the and of 1942 to provide the funds for war relief overseas, which is carried on by the Joint Distribution Committee; for strengthening the defenses of Palestine, whose upbuilding is supported by the United Palestine Appeal; and for helping refugees in the United States contribute to the war effort through the adjustment program of the National Refugee Service, it was announced here today by U.J.A. headquarters.
Stirred by the tragic situation in France, a considerable number of communities have increased their quotas and many others have advanced their campaign dates. Recognizing that the coming winter will bring crucial days for the Jews of Palestine who are in the front line of the Middle East, community leaders are gearing campaign machines to maximum effectiveness. The need for manpower in our own country has also brought the realization that the newcomers in our midst must be given every opportunity for speedy economic integration. A number of communities throughout the country chose the High Holidays as the season for appeals on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal.
