Fourteen hundred Jewish refugees have arrived in Italy from Austria during the last two days. They were all housed in the Jewish Community House in Milan.
In view of the overcrowded conditions existing in the Jewish DP camps in Italy, it is probable that the refugees will be compelled to reside in non-Jewish camps, along with Ukrainian, Yugoslav and Croat refugees, many of whom are anti-Semites who aided the Nazis during the war. Meanwhile, Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, arrived here today. He will visit J.D.C. establishments in Italy for four days, after which he will proceed to Greece and Palestine.
