Race Relations Sunday, honoring the memory of Abraham Lincoln, was observed today in 140,000 churches throughout the United States where a message from President Roosevelt calling for racial unity in this country was read. The Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America sponsored the observance.
Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, chairman of the Christian Council of Palestine, yesterday told 100 Washington clergymen he was “startled by the growing wave of anti-Semitism” seen on a recent nationwide tour. Dr. Atkinson asserted “Hitler realizes that Nazism has been defeated on the battlefield, and now is fostering a campaign to conquer the democracies from within.”
