The authorities today granted Spanish citizenship to 144 stateless Sephardic Jewish families under a measure recently announced by Premier Manuel Azana. The measure for facilitating repatriation of old Spanish Jewish families, the Premier said, came under Article 23 of the 1931 constitution which provides:
“A law is to be passed to facilitate the acquisition of Spanish nationality by persons of Spanish origin resident abroad.”
