Fifteen of the Black Panthers, detained after Monday’s demonstration, were today brought to trial in the Jerusalem Magistrate Court and pleaded not guilty. Five were remanded in custody and 10 were released on bail. The prosecution is to begin its case next week. Meanwhile, Panther leader Reuben Abragill, was today remanded for five days for his part in leading Monday’s demonstration. Four more Panther members were remanded for five days and three for six days. The police are still looking for two of the Panther leaders for whom warrants have been issued but who are still at large: the organization’s chairman, Saadia Marciano, and its secretary, Charlie Bitton.
