Delegations from 15 countries have already accepted invitations to the Second World Congress of Jewish Studies which will convene here on July 28. The week-long meeting will be the most important event in the field of Jewish scholarship since the first Congress which was held on Mt. Scopus in 1947.
Sponsored jointly by the Hebrew University–on whose campus it will be held–and the Ministry of Education, the Congress will feature a number of exhibits, such as; the Hebrew book in Jewish studies; historical documents; the demography of the Jews; the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The largest contingent of scholars. Jews and non-Jews, is expected from the U.S. whence 26 invitations have been accepted to date. Among the other registrants are: Britain, 13: France, 8; Switzerland. 7; Germany, Holland and Poland 4 each; and Hungary, Portugal, Spain, Canada and South Africa, one each; Belgium and Sweden, two each.
