The first meeting of the 15-nation advisory committee to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will be held in Geneva beginning December 3rd, it was announced here today. The committee will discuss methods to promote material assistance to refugees and methods to integrate those refugees who have no chance of being resettled into the economies of the countries where they are now residing.
The advisory committee will not act as a governing body but rather as a consultative committee. At the advisory committee meeting, it will be recommended that all non-governmental organizations which now enjoy consultative status to the U.N. Economic and Social Council should also be granted similar status to the High Commissioner’s advisory committee on refugees.
The 15 nations making up the advisory committee were named by the Economic and Social Council during its last session. They are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, the Holy See, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Venezuela.
