There are exactly 152 former members of the Gestapo in the employ of this Province of Baden-Wurttemberg. The figure was given officially today by the State Government in response to a previous demand in the provincial legislature by Deputy Fritz Helmstaedter, a member of the opposition Social Democratic Party.
A spokesman for the state government said that dismissal of the former Gestapo members is difficult if not impossible because of civil service regulations. However, it was announced that an investigation is being conducted into the status and activities of a number of judges and state prosecutors who had allegedly been members of the “People’s Courts” under the Nazi regime.
