The mass-murder trial of Gustav Sorge and Wilhelm Schubert, former Sachsenhausen concentration camp guards charged with the murder of more than 11, 000 persons, many of them Jews, was resumed today in a crowded Azzise court after the defendants told the court their personal histories as required by German legal rules.
The prosecution has summarized its case in a 500-page indictment and 161 witnesses have been called from Israel, Europe and the United States to testify. The maximum sentence would be life imprisonment at hard labor under the ordinary penal code under which they are being tried.
