One-hundred-fifty Jewish leaders from throughout the free world gathered in London earlier this month to celebrate Jewish unity and vowed continued support of the people of Israel and Jews still living under oppression. Sixty leaders representing 16 communities throughout the U.S. were among those pledging $16,5 million in support of humanitarian programs in Israel at the second annual World Leadership Meeting, Dec. 1-2.
Representatives of Jewish communities in Europe, Canada and South Africa also participated in the event, which included a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon. Trevor Chinn, chairman of the United Israel Appeal for the United Kingdom, was chairman of the event, and UJA national chairman Leonard R. Strelitz, was cochairman. Edgar Bronfman of New York City led a large delegation from that city. A third World Leadership Meeting has been scheduled for Paris in 1976.
