More than 18,000 persons attended the 10th annual Chanukah Festival for Israel tonight presented by the Israel Bond Organization at Madison Square Garden here. A second Festival will take place there on January 2.
Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller was principal speaker at the Festival, which climaxed the 1960 campaign in the New York area to raise $15,000,000 in Israel bonds. Other speakers at the Festival included Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of the Festival Committee who made his last public appearance here before settling in Israel, and Ira Guilden, general chairman of the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds.
A high point of the Festival was the salute to the colors by 50 members of the Shomrim Society, an organization of Jewish police of New York City. Prominent artists participating in the Festival included 60 members of the New York Philhammonic Orchestra.
