George Backer, chairman of the Greater New York campaign of the Joint Distribution Committee, announced today that the city’s quota in the national $4,650,000 drive had been set at $1,860,000. Mr. Backer said that “this year the J.D.C. faces a greater task than over before. Today the situation in Poland is rapidly becoming desperate. Every effort must be made to prevent a catastrophe.”
