A total of 196,000 Israelis are now living abroad, and 96,000 of them have officially declared themselves to be emigrants, according to figures released here today by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
More than half of the number are European or American born Israelis, and a quarter are Sabras, including a large percentage of Israel-born children under the age of 15. The Bureau reported that Israel’s Jewish population as of December 31, 1966 stood at 2,344,877.
