More than $2,000,000 worth of Israel Development Bonds were sold here this week-end to guests at a dinner honoring Col. Jacob M. Arvey. The 2,000-odd guests each purchased a minimum of $1,000 in bonds in order to attend the dinner.
Among the civic, political and religious leaders from all parts of the country who attended the dinner and paid tribute to Col. Arvey, were Adlai Stevenson, 1952 Democratic Presidential candidate; Abba Eban, Israel’s Ambassador in Washington and head of the delegation to the United Nations; Sen. Paul Douglas of Illinois, and Sen. Estes Kefauver of Tennessee. At the dinner, William Mcfetridge, vice-president of the American Federation of Labor, announced a special drive to sell $500,000 in Israel bonds in the labor movement in this city.
