Fines of £25 each (about $125) were imposed today on Salakh Abdou and Hassan Sidky el Dajany, Arab strike leaders, for having signed a manifesto urging non-payment of taxes as part of a civil disobedience campaign aimed at forcing the British Government to halt Jewish immigration and sale of land to Jews.
Both Arabs, smiling broadly, immediately paid the fines. Dajany is a prominent Moslem lawyer and leader of the Arab Defense Party. When arrested May 5 on charges of inciting to rebellion, an Arab mob tried to effect his rescue from the police. Abdou, also a lawyer, was arrested at the same time.
