Two boyhood friends, a rabbi and a cantor, were reunited here yesterday when Rabbi David Koolyk was formally installed as leader of the orthodox congregation, Brisk D’-Lito. Sharing the pulpit with him will be Cantor Harry J. Cohen. Both men are from Grosovof, Russia. Nearly twenty years ago their paths separated when Koolyk went to continue his rabbinical studies at Slobodkah Yeshivah and Cohen came to the United States.
An attendance of more than 1,000 witnessed the installation exercises. The “charge” to the new leader was delivered by Rabbi Joseph Konvitz, president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, who resides in this city. Among other participants were the following local rabbis: Hyman Brodsky, Louis Weller, Saul Zin, Elias Singer, Zindel Levine and Hyman Glotzer. Rabbis R. L. Lvovitch and Abraham Lerman of New York also attended.
