Determined to protect the Jewish population from any anti-Semitic propaganda, the Greek government today refused to permit the reappearance of two anti-Semitic newspapers which were suppressed during the recent civil war.
The editors of both papers are now in jail and will be court-martialed. In refusing to permit the reappearance of their papers the authorities here declared that while newspapers opposed to the government during the recent revolt will all be permitted to resume publication none of those that were outspokenly anti-Semitic will receive such permission.
The Jewish population in Greece, which has always supported the present government, is now making preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, in which it is expected that the Jews will obtain five seats in Parliament. Jewish leaders here are especially particular that the Jewish candidates side fully with the present regime and have no sympathies for the opposition.
