Two Israeli soldiers were seriously injured when a hand grenade exploded in their half-track in the central market place in Gaza last night. A curfew was imposed on the area and an investigation was started. The grenade was believed to have been thrown from a nearby building. The two hospitalized soldiers were visited by Maj. Gen. Mordechai Gur, military governor of the Gaza Strip and northern Sinai.
An Israeli half-track was attacked last night near Ashdod Yaacok in the Beisan area and mortar shells were fired by Jordanian forces at Israeli positions near Beit Yosef in the Beisan region and at Al Hamma at the junction of the Israeli, Syrian and Jordanian frontiers, a military spokesman reported. The fire was returned and there were no casualties on the Israeli side.
Nine of 28 terrorist suspects arrested in Hebron in recent days were brought before a military court yesterday. They are charged with membership in the “Popular Front” and the “Front for the Liberation of Palestine.” The latter organization is held responsible for the grenade explosions last month in downtown Jerusalem and in the Tel Aviv bus station.
