Two Jews wounded in Arab attacks at Ramleh last Friday, Gabriel Sheloush and Shmuel Weiner, died today, raising the Jewish death toll to 50 for August. The attacks had followed a bomb explosion in nearby Jaffa which resulted in death of 32 Arabs.
An Arab chieftain, Abdul Fatach, was fatally wounded last night while walking in the Old City section of Jerusalem. An Arab companion was seriously injured. Two Arab physicians kidnaped yesterday near Beth Jiblin to serve as a rebel “medical corps” were returned unharmed today. Both are Government doctors attached to the Hebron Hospital.
A band surrounded and attacked the Meirun police post on the northern frontier. The police replied from Lewis guns and were believed to have inflicted casualties on the attackers. A Jewish railway foreman, Eliezer Balaban, was stabbed and seriously injured while on duty in Jaffa. Jewish auxiliary police carrying ammunition and uniforms to the Kear Menachem settlement was held up and robbed by a band near Tireh village. Another band stole licensed arms and ammunition from the home of the Mufti of Hebron.
A band kidnaped the chief clerk of the Nazareth District office while he was motoring with an escort from the Tabouria village, where he had collected a L150 collective fine.
The authorities today lifted censorship of cables and telegrams destined for newspapers and news agencies outside of Palestine. Censorship of local newspapers, which are permitted to publish only official communiques on the current disorders, continues in effect.
