Two steamers carrying more than 900 Jewish refugees were captured today in Palestine waters and taken to the port of Haifa. The Greek ship Niko, with 560 refugees on board, was halted south of Jaffa. The Panamanian steamer Colorado was stopped with 373 refugees aboard.
Queen Elizabeth was urged to intervene today to halt a hunger strike launched Wednesday by 80 Jews detained at the Government concentration camp at Sarafend in protest against the six-month extension of the sentence of the Jerusalem Revisionist, Israel Borvitz, upon completion of his one year term.
Wives and mothers of the strikers joined in a cabled plea to the British Queen and in wires to High Commissioner Sir Harold Alfred MacMichael and Major Gen. Robert H. Haining, commander in chief of British forces in Palestine. Intervention with the military authorities was also undertaken by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Ben Zion Uziel at the request of the prisoners families.
