Two hundred workers in the scientific installations of the Hebrew University here went on a 24-hour strike today in protest against the failure of the University to meet its November payroll. Although instructors and professors are not on strike, a number of them stayed away from their classrooms today in sympathy with the strikers.
The executive of the Histadrut, Israel’s federation of labor, last night decided to demand basic salary increases for all workers, as well as continued payment of cost of living allowances. The executive decided that it would not agree to a demand by the Israel Manufacturers Association that the present cost of living allowances be discontinued.
