A new list of names of approximately 2,000 Jewish refugees, most of whom have recently come to Switzerland from Yugoslavia and the liberated part of Italy, has been received by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society, it was announced today by Abraham Herman, HIAS president.
The list was transmitted to New York to expedites the release of the refugees from the camps in which they are being housed by the Swiss authorities pending the receipt of “Maintenance Guarantee Funds” for them. According to a survey made by the Union of Swiss Jewish Communities, which is cooperating with HIAS in the refugee aid service, there are at present in Switzerland approximately 60,000 refugees of whom 20,000 are Jews.
