Approximately 20,000 citizens of greater Philadelphia gathered at historic Independence Square to urge President Johnson, and members of both houses of Congress to spur Arab-Israel peace efforts, and to take steps to guarantee freedom of international waterways, including the Suez Canal, to the ships of all nations.
A resolution, adopted by acclamation emphasized that “it is in the highest interest of the United States that a permanent and lasting peace treaty be negotiated and signed by Israel and the Arab states.”
