Twenty thousand Israeli professionals employed by the Government and in public institutions were granted an 18 percent salary increase today, retroactive to April, 1964. The increase will affect engineers, doctors, teachers, chemists, economists and journalists.
The wage hike was granted by the Ministerial Committee on Wages which has been studying the demands of other professionals besides engineers for parity in salaries paid to all professional and administrative personnel. The new salaries are to be linked to the wage scales already established for engineers and for other professionals given increases during the past several months.
