The establishment of a $2,000,000 Baron Rothschild Foundation for the Advancement of Science in Israel was announced today by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion’s office.
The Foundation, which is registered in the United States, was created through the generosity of Miss Batsheeba de Rothschild, daughter of the late head of the French branch of the family, according to the announcement.
The Foundation will finance applied scientific research in Israel and will concentrate on such branches of research as will best advance Israel’s development. Miss de Rothschild has visited Israel several times, including one visit during the Sinai campaign. She has made donations for various cultural enterprises, including the financing of tours to Israel by entertainers from other countries.
