Pledges totaling $2,037,000 were made at the advanced gifts dinner last night which officially inaugurated the 1962 appeal of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston.
David Kane, general chairman of the 1962 campaign, said that the figure represents the “largest amount pledged at an advanced gifts dinner in the past ten years. It also represents a considerable increase over pledges made by the same individuals in 1961.”
Principal speaker was Irving Kane, president of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds. “The present crisis,” he stated, “represents both danger and opportunity. One of the greatest dangers is that unless the Jews of America respond with maximum generosity, the opportunity to save thousands of Jews will be lost.” Sidney R. Rabb presided as dinner chairman.
