Twenty-one Jewish candidates will be on the ballot Sunday when Brazilians go to the polls in a nationwide election for seats in federal and state legislatures and other public offices.
Of the 21 Jews up for election, one is a candidate for a seat in the federal Senate; two in the federal Chamber of Deputies; two are running for mayoralty posts and 16 for seats in the provincial legislatures. The Senatorial candidate and one of the two candidates for the Chamber of Deputies are given good chances of being elected. It is estimated that there are 450, 00 Jewish voters in Brazil.
