Cuba has accepted 21 German-Jewish refugees turned away from Mexico last week. The group arrived here Friday on the S. S. Orinoco and were permitted to land following appeals to the authorities by Cuban newspapers, labor unions and political parties.
Leading the newspaper campaign for their admission was the Cuban Democratic daily Hoy, which in an editorial urged the Cuban people to appeal to the Government on their behalf. Telegrams urging that the refugees be permitted to remain in Cuba were sent by 100 labor unions and five political parties to Col. Fulgencio Batista, army chief of staff, and the Ministers of Labor and Foreign Affairs.
