A petition signed by 210,000 British subjects asking the Government to admit more Jews to Palestine was submitted to Commons today by Adrian C. Moreing, Conservative. At the same time the executive committee of the British League of Nations Union urged the Government to postpone implementation of its new Palestine policy pending a decision in Geneva on its compatibility with the mandate.
The petition asked that “His Majesty’s Government, in the name of humanity and justice, will increase the facilities for immigration into Palestine to the highest extent that its absorptive capacity will allow so that they (the Jews) may, in accordance with the terms incorporated in the mandate, find a home of refuge from persecution and there cooperate with their Arab neighbors for the mutual benefit of both peoples.”
The League Union’s resolution declared that in view of the widely expressed opinion that the policy did not conform with the British obligations under the mandate, the Government should not implement the policy before the Mandates Commission and the League Council reach its conclusions on the White Paper’s compatibility with the mandate. It also asks that the Mandates Commission report be published before July in order that Parliament before adjourning have full information about a matter vitally affecting the honor of the country.
