The opening assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America was held Sunday evening, before a gathering of students, the faculty and friends of the Seminary. Dr. Cyrus Adler welcomed the new students.
Twenty-two students were admitted into the Rabbinical Department of the Seminary, making a total registration, exclusive of the Post Graduate Department, of eighty. There are now enrolled twenty-nine candidates for the degree of Doctor of Hebrew Literature and three for the Hattarath Horaah. Of the twenty-two men admitted–four come from Canada; one from Illinois; three from Massachusetts; one from Michigan; nine from New York; three from Pennsylvania and one from Europe.
In the Teachers Institute of the Seminary, there is an enrollment of 396 students, divided as follows: In the main department and preparatory course, 186, sixty-nine of whom are new students; in the post-graduate department, thirty-five; and in the Israel Friedlander classes, 175. In he post-graduate department and in the Israel Friedlander classes, registration is not yet closed.
