A North American Jewish Youth Council was formally established today by representatives of 24 national youth groups from the United States and Canada at a three-day conference held here at Camp Ramah.
The Council will seek to initiate and develop projects which will enrich the programs of the constituent national Jewish youth organizations; provide an exchange of information, ideas and experiences among the groups; contribute to the strength of Jewish life; and deepen the concern of American Jewish youth for world Jewry, with special emphasis on the relationships between American youth and Israel.”
The Council decided to operate principally in these areas: 1) The enrichment of American-Jewish life; 2) The support of Soviet Jewry’s fight for equal rights; and 3) The strengthening of the ties of American Jewish youth with Israel.
The 24 member organizations of the Council are: Atid; Betar; B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundations; B’nai B’rith Youth Organization; AZA, BBG, BBYA; B’nai Akiva; Canadian Council of YM-YWHAS; Canadian Young Judaea; Dror; Hashomer Hatzair; Ichud Habonim; National Jewish Welfare Board Jewish Community Centers; Junior Hadassah; Leadership Training Fellowship; Masada of ZOA; Mizrachi Hatzair; National Conference of Synagogue Youth; National Federation of Temple Youth; Student Zionist Organization; United Synagogue Youth; Yavneh; Young Israel; Young Judaea.
