The summer camp is becoming a feature of increasing importance in the expansion of the activities of the Y. M. H. A.’s, Y. W. H. A.’s and Jewish Community Centers throughout the country, the Jewish Welfare Board reports.
Early in July, 24 camps and summer homes conducted by assocations affiliated with the Jewish Welfare Board will be in operation. They will accommodate approximately 2,700 campers at one time. The usual stay for each camper averages two weeks. Throughout the season approximately 12,000 campers will be provided for.
A new camp is to be opened this summer under the auspices of the Associated Y. M. and Y. W. H. A. of New England, on Lake Tispaquin near Middlboro, Mass. The New Jersey Federation of Y. M. H. A.’s and Y. W. H. A.’s will continue the operation of its two camps. The associations in the metropolitan area of New York and up-State avail themselves of the facilities of nine camps and summer homes.
In the middle West and West camps are located at Loon Lake, Antioch, I11. at Jeddo, Michigan, Lehman Lake, Michigan, and Painesville, Ohio, Cisco, California, Florence, Nebraska, Camp Neskowin, Oregon. In the South are the camps at Harrods Creek, Kentucky and Mentone, Alabama.
