In order to encourage marriage among Jews, the Jewish Loan Bank here decided today to issue loans as high as 600 marks (about $240) to each youth who announces his intention to marry. The money will go to establish a home for the newlyweds.
This measure became necessary in view of the fact that the government does not grant to Jews the State subsidy of 1,000 marks which it presents to “Aryan” young men when they marry.
Loans of 1,000 marks each will also be granted by the Jewish Loan Bank to assist Jews of Greater Berlin to engage in independent economic activities.
A chain of Jewish loan banks is now being organized in the larger cities of Germany with the assistance of funds from American Jewry coming through the American Joint Distribution Committee.
