The office of the Anti-Defamation League of the B’nai B’rith here filed a formal complaint with the President’s Committee on Government Contracts, charging 25 Los Angeles firms with discrimination in the hiring of clerical workers.

Jack Y. Berman, chairman of the ADL regional executive committee, said that the firms involved were believed to be doing business with the Federal Government and were therefore required to abide by the non-discrimination clause of United States Executive Order 10479.

Declaring this was the second complaint submitted to the President’s Committee in 18 months, Mr. Berman said that after the Committee investigated the original charges, it established jurisdiction in the cases of 29 firms. He reported that charges were settled in 21 cases and that eight of the original charges were still pending.

He said that biased job orders had been placed in the name of each of the 25 firms with local private employment agencies and that in each case, “the order specifically directed that Jews, Negroes, Orientals or Mexican-Americans were not to be referred by the employment agency with which the job order had been placed.”
