More than 250 writers and Jewish leaders paid tribute to the literary achievements of Sholem Asch, leading Yiddish novelist and playwright, at a testimonial dinner last night in the Commodore Hotel on behalf of the emergency campaign of the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees and Overseas Needs. Speakers included Abraham Cahan, editor of the Jewish Daily Forward; Dr. Solomon Goldman, president of the Zionist Organization of America, and Edward M.M. Warburg, executive chairman of the New York campaign of the United Jewish Appeal, who was toastmaster.
