Two hundred and fifty students were registered in the first official matriculation of students within a faculty of the Hebrew University.
Teachers and students of the Faculty of Humanities, and of other members of the academic staff and students were present yesterday when the official matriculation was opened.
Dr. Judah L. Magnes, Chancellor of the University, delivered an address and presented each student present with a “Student Book” autographed by him. A representative of the student body also spoke.
The Faculty of the Humanities was inaugurated in accordance with the decision of the Board of Governors in London, June, 1928, an announcement issued by the American Advisory Committee of the Hebrew University, of which Felix M. Warburg is chairman, declares on the occasion of the ceremonies held yesterday at the University.
The Advisory Committee also announced that a gift of $5,000 toward the completion of the new Library Building has been made by David W. Simons of Detroit. Recent contributions to the library, which now houses over 200,000 books, include a collection of books on the contemporary theatre and history of the theatre, from Miss Alice Lewisohn of New York City.
