The eviction from nationalized houses of 25,000 persons classed as a non-productive element, former merchants and traders, was begun here yesterday on a wholesale scale.

It is difficult to establish definitely the number of Jewish residents involved in this mass eviction. The Jewish population in Leningrad numbers five per cent of the general population. However, the proportion of Jews in the declassed category is much larger. The evicted may secure homes in the abandoned, dilapidated houses outside of the city, provided they undertake to repair the buildings, the authorities declared.

Eviction proceedings will soon start in Moscow.
