Machinery, tools and other materials worth $230,000 were distributed to ORT vocational schools in 19 countries last year, according to a report published today by the central office of the World ORT Union here. “This infusion of goods and commodities went to maintain up-to-date standards of equipment in the 260 trade schools and courses and contributed to the high level of ORT technical education, ” the report said.
Much of the material was used to set up new teaching units in Israel and North Africa. The ORT Tool Supply Corporation, which was established to handle distribution in Israel of tools and machines to artisans, received 350 sewing machines, 45 shoe finishing machines, 30 knitting machines and five metal shapers during the past six months. This is in addition to items forwarded to the 18 Israeli ORT vocational centers.
The purchasing program is directed from Geneva headquarters, which secured the markets in machinery of Denmark, Sweden, the United States, Holland, Switzerland, England and France in search of the type of supplies required, many of them precision machines and special devices.
