A total of 273 Jews were among the more than 800 displaced persons who arrived here today aboard the U.S. Army transport Gen. Omar Bundy from Bremerhaven, Germany. The transport is the second vessel to reach these shores with refugee immigrants under the terms of the Displaced Persons Act of 1948.
The Jewish arrivals were met at the pier by representatives of the United Service for New Americans and volunteers from the local section of the National Council of Jewish Women, operating under the direction of U.S.N.A.
