$28, 500, 000 Raised by United Jewish Appeal of New York in 1960

A total of $28, 500, 000 was raised in the 1960 fund campaign of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, it was announced last night at the meeting of the organization’s board of directors. The campaign will close at the end of this month. Samuel Leidesdorf, UJA treasurer, reported that individual contributions were 13 percent higher than in 1959.

General Haim Laskov, recently retired Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces who is currently on a lecture tour in this country on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal, urged an intensive effort to speed immigrants in farm settlements along Israel’s borders to self sufficiency, “The very existence of these border settlements reduces the chance of war, ” Gen. Laskov stated.

The directors re-elected Monroe Goldwater as president and Samuel Hausman as chairman of the board of the membership corporation which sponsors the yearly UJA drive in the New York City area.
