The Immigration Department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine announced today that the 5,600 immigration certificates granted by the government of Palestine would be divided as follows:
Fifty per cent for Chalutzim, pioneers, provided they will engage in agriculture.
Three hundred for Oriental Jews on a similar basis.
Two hundred for industrial experts.
The remainder of the certificates will go to qualified workers and artisans, the majority of whom will come from Poland and will be relatives for whom those in Palestine have already asked for certificates.
The agency statement disclosed that 8,000 such applications have already been registered with the immigration department for brothers, sons and brothers-in-law, and that 7,000 of the applications are for persons in Poland.
The greatest difficulty, the agency declared, existed in the question of certificates for women. The agency had received 5,000 applications for women relatives. It had only 185 at its disposal, of which 100 were for German Jewish women.
