THREE ARABS WERE REPORTED KILLED TODAY AS BRITISH MILITARY AUTHORITIES CONFERRED TO AVERT A THREATENED OUTBREAK OF VIOLENCE SIMILAR TO THE SANGUINARY PALESTINE RIOTS OF 1936.

ONE ARAB WAS FOUND KILLED IN THE SANHEDRIA SUBURB OF JERUSALEM. A SECOND FOUND WOUNDED THERE DIED IN THE HOSPITAL. ANOTHER ARAB WAS REPORTED FOUND SLAIN ON MT. CARMEL NEAR HAIFA.

MAJOR-GENERAL ARCHIBALD P. WAVELL CONFERRED WITH LIEUTENANT-GENERAL JOHN GREER DILL, WHOM HE SUCCEEDS AS COMMANDER OF BRITISH FORCES IN PALESTINE AND TRANSJORDAN, FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS, TOGETHER WITH OTHER MILITARY LEADERS.

TERRORISTS FIRED ON THE HOME OF THE POLICE SECRETARY AT NABLUS, WOUNDING A SERVANT. THE TOWN OF SAFED WAS FIRED ON BY ARABS, BUT NO CASUALTIES OR DAMAGES WERE REPORTED.

A BOMB EXPULSION IN TEL AVIV WOUNDED A YEMENITE JEW, HAIM GIRASSI, 65 YEARS OLD. HE WAS REMOVED TO HADASSAH HOSPITAL FOR AN EMERGENCY OPERATION.

POSTERS CALLING ON ARABS BANDS TO RENEW THEIR TERRORIST ACTIVITIES WERE FOUND IN JERUSALEM MOSQUES AFTER WORSHIP, SIGNED BY FAWZI BEY EL KAUKAJI, KNOWN TO THE POLICE AS “PUBLIC ENEMY NO. I” DURING LAST YEAR’S DISORDERS.

FEARS WERE EXPRESSED HERE THAT PALESTINE WAS STANDING ON THE BRINK OF ANOTHER ARAB REVOLT AFTER THE APPEARANCE OF KAUKAJI’S POSTERS, WHICH ASKED FOR RENEWAL OF TERRORIST ACTS AGAINST THE BRITISH AND THE ZIONISTS.

POLICE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY WERE ORDERED TO “STAND TO.” STRONG RIFLE-ARMED PATROLS WATCHED JERUSALEM’S STREETS WHILE HEAVY MILITARY DETACHMENTS GUARDED THE ROADS. ARMORED POLICE CARS PATROLLED JERUSALEM AND TEL AVIV.

HEBREW NEWSPAPERS, WARNING NEW DISORDERS WERE IMMINENT, BLAMED THE PALESTINE GOVERNMENT. THE LABORITE ORGAN, DAVAR, DECLARED THE GOVERNMENT HAD FREQUENTLY BEEN WARNED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF DISORDERS AND HELD PEACE WAS IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS ORGANIZERS OF DISORDERS WERE PREVENTED FROM ACTING BY ARREST.

“ON THE STILL FRESH GRAVES OF THE INNOCENT VICTIMS WE AGAIN WARN THE PALESTINE GOVERNMENT,” DAVAR CONCLUDED. HAARETZ CALLED FOR UNITY AMONG THE JEWS TO FACE EVENTUALITIES WITH COURAGE AND DETERMINATION.

ARAB NEWSPAPERS APPEALED FOR SELF-RESTRAINT, WARNING THE ARABS NOT TO GIVE GENEVA AND LONDON GROUNDS FOR STATING THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER SOLUTION OF THE PALESTINE PROBLEM BUT PARTITIONING THE COUNTRY.
