Three Jewish students were injured today in rioting at Budapest and Pecs Universities. Premier Daranyi declared in a statement tonight that “such rioting must cease in the interests of the country; the Government is ready to take the strongest measures if the riots recur.”
The disturbances at Pecs University broke out in connection with the graduation of three Jewish medical students. The rector attempted to save them from a mob of more than 100 students by looking them up in a room, but the rioters broke down the door and severely injured the Jews.
One of the Jewish students was beaten under the eyes of his father who had come for the graduation ceremony.
Later, anti-Jewish students attempted to demonstrate and break windows of Jewish shops, but were halted by police. They succeeded in breaking windows of synagogue, the Jewish community office and a Jewish elementary school.
At Budapest University, anti-Semites demonstrated, hurling epithets at Jewish students and demanding restrictions on their admission to the university.
