The responsible editors of three Hebrew daily newspapers were today released on bail pending trial on charges of breaking censorship regulations.
They are Berl Katznelson, editor of the laborite Davar; Dr. Nathan Alterman, of Haaretz, General Zionist organ, and Rabbi Benjamin, of Hazofeh, organ of the Mizrachi (religious Zionist) Organization.
The news of the release on bail of the three editors was the first inkling of their arrest, which was assumed to be in connection with the ordinance restricting sale of land in Palestine, announced by the British Government on Wednesday.
Under the censorship regulations existing in Palestine, a censor sits in the office of each newspaper and determines what can be published. Thus, the only way an editor could violate the regulations would be to defy the censor openly. Rabbi “Benjamin” is the pen-name of the Mizrachi leader, Rabbi Radler-Feldman.
