The first 300 of a contingent of 800 Jewish children from Poland who are coming here for a short stay en route to Paris, arrived today on a train provided by the Czech Government. In France the children will be placed in trade schools, yeshivas and training farms, in preparation for their eventual emigration to Palestine. Several rabbis from Warsaw accompanied the children.
A transport of 52 persons, including 29 children, left here today for Palestine, several hundred more are preparing to emigrate. Meanwhile, A.B. Silberberg of the Jewish Agency has arrived here to direct the Palestine offices in central Europe and to speed emigration.
Czechoslovak citizens who last week returned from Palestine, where they took refuge during the war, have expressed appreciation of the welcome extended them by Czech authorities. Many of the returnees arrived to settle family and business matters and some plan to return to Palestine. According to I. Friedl, secretary of the Palestine Office here, a number of the repatriates have enquired about the possibilities of returning to Palestine, while a few of them already have return visas in their possession.
