The 1976 International Mission of Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal opened here Monday night with close to 300 participants from 17 countries on five continents. The International Mission is the main annual event of Keren Hayesod and the participants represent a wide range of UIA-Keren Hayesod appeals which operate all over the world except the U.S.
Most Mission members arrived in organized groups. The participants met for the first time and were greeted by the world chairman of UIA, Ezra Shapiro. During their six day stay in Israel, the Mission will meet with Premier Yitzhak Rabin. Defense Minister Shimon Peres, former Premier Golda Meir, World Zionist Organization Chairman Yosef Almogi, Interior Minister Yosef Burg, Jewish Agency Treasurer Leon Dulzin and other leaders.
The Mission will visit the Mitle and Gidi Passes in Sinai and tour the development towns of Ofakim and Netivei in the Shkol region. They will also visit the new town of Yamit, and will be guests of the Israel Air Force at one of its bases. The Mission will end with a festive dinner Saturday night, at which it is expected that national groups will announce their 1976 campaign goals.
