Three thousand delegates from Jewish communities throughout the United States were arriving here today to participate in the annual National Conference of the United Palestine Appeal, which opens tomorrow evening at the Palmer House and will continue through Sunday.
A press conference was held this afternoon by an Israeli youth delegation composed of nine Haganah veterans who are touring the country under the suspires of the United Jewish Appeal and who will attend the U.P.A. parley. The Israeli fighters brought “greetings to the citizens of Chicago from the state of Israel.” They said that Israel was fighting in defense of international law and for a “fifth freedom — the freedom of immigration.” They lauded the U.P.A. as making possible with its aid the financial support of Israel’s immigration and resettlement program.
