Three thousand men of the Jewish refugee group at Nice have been deported to Germany and Poland, the Joint Distribution Committee learned today by cable from Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, its European chairman. These refugees include natives of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and other countries, who had previously fled to the Italian-occupied zones, when the German armies marched into France.

Wives and children of the deportees still remained at Nice, the cable said. Acute anxiety is felt over the fate of the large numbers of refugees still in other parts of France. Before the German occupation their number was estimated at 70,000, of whom thousands were children whose emigration to the Western Hemisphere was halted by the Nazi invasion of France.
