Some 3000 people gathered in a cold, heavy rain on the Ellipse opposite the White House Sunday for a one-hour inter-faith, inter-racial demonstration on behalf of Soviet Jews. The event, sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington, marked Solidarity Day which launched a nation-wide Solidarity Month during which rallies and demonstrations will be held in communities uses the country for the civil and religious rights of Jews in the USSR and their right to emigrate. The rally was attended by three Christian clergymen who participated in the Second World Conference on Soviet Jewry in February.
