An additional 318 Jewish men, women and children are en route from Shanghai, China, to new homes in North and South America aboard the S.S. General Gordon, the JDC has been informed by Charles H. Jordan, its director in Shanghai. The vessel is expected to land at San Francisco on or about March 20. En route to the United States are 241 survivors, while others will settle in San Domingo, Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuader, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Barbados, and Colombia.
Their sailing brings to more than 900 the number of Jewish men, women and children who have been helped to leave Shanghai so far this year by the J.D.G. Mr. Jordan disclosed that the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai is now processing for immigration into the United States Jewish survivors who come under the Czechoslovakian quota. Previously, only those coming under the German quota were processed by the American consulate. Approximately 11,000 Jews remain in Shanghai.
